Offshore Wind: Site/Support Facilities: THE IMPORTANTE of PORTS
May 17th, 2023
Offshore wind capacity Worldwide and in particular in Europe (which is expected to accommodate around 50% of World’s Offshore Wind production in 2050) will require upgrading, redesigning and adapting existing facilities as well as in new infrastructure.
This investment would enable ports to offer efficiencies such as in more capable vessels that can complete installations faster. Or in consolidating operations, maintenance and service in dedicated port ‘hubs’.
OFFSHORE VESSELS (WITV_FIV_CLV) vs OFFSHORE WIND MARKET
April 21st 2023
In accordance with H-BLIX/Polish Wind Energy Association (PWEA) Report, with content input from WindEurope (June 2022): Offshore wind vessel availability until 2030, due to significant demand growth, will face a shortage of installation vessels, posing a risk for project execution worldwide as well as in the Baltic Sea and Poland (report main focus).
▪ For WTIV demand peaks in 2025-26 and then 2029-2030 (Figure 2) with 2025 supply vs demand gap greater than the Baltic See demand and significant shortage towards the end of the decade.
▪ For FIV and CLV demand peaks in 2024-2025 and then 2028-2030 with very similar rations and trends for the Baltic Sea.
▪ The current Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) market is oversupplied but to a certain extend underqualified
World energy usage as well as ongoing transition was (impact with the oil chock in 1973-74) and will always be subject of major geopolitics impacts. The current changes from carbon based technologies to a renewable source technology (on their different approaches) challenge World Nations, Companies (energy generators and traders, transportation, industrial consumers, etc.), etc, to develop new relationship behaviours, opening pathways for better management of energetic resources, key aspect for a sustainable development. It’s requires resilience and a long and continuous effort.
